Varsity Pre-season Game

February 08, 2017

Heritage 12, Palm Bay 12

Panthers tie in pre-season game against Palm Bay

The Panthers came out swinging in their first pre-season game.   VonPlinsky, Charriez, and K. Rouse all had singles to put the Panthers up by 4 in the top of the first.  The Panthers added 4 more in the top of the second, giving them an 8-2 lead.    Kristin Rouse came out strong on the mound and held the Pirates to 1 run in the first, and 2 in the second, with 4 strike outs.  Struggles in the field in the 3rd inning allowed the Pirates to close the gap as they put up 5 unearned runs.  In the top of the 5th, as the 2 hour time limit was drawing near, Colon, VonPlinsky, Charriez,  and K. Rouse stepped up at the plate again giving the Panthers a 12-10 lead.   The fourth inning brought Dietz to the mound, where she had a good beginning in 1st game of her varsity career, with 2 strike outs and only giving up 3 runs over 2 inning, 1 of which was unearned.  Impressive plays by K. Rouse and Colon in the outfield kept the game to a 12-12 tie as the time limit expired in the bottom of the 5th.

Varsity Pre-Season Game

February 09, 2017

Heritage 3, Satellite 14

Bats go cold in loss against Satellite

The Panthers struggled at the plate against Satellite as the pre-season came to an end.  Satellite jumped ahead early scoring the majority of their runs in the second inning, and holding the Panthers to just 3 hits the rest of the game.    Mika Ward helped the Panthers end the spiral in the 3rd inning as she made all three outs unassisted at 1st base, holding the Scorpions to only 2 runs that inning.  The Panthers were able to put one run on the board when Ward beat out a throw to first base, and Dietz and Battle followed up by laying down 2 well placed bunts.  They added 2 more to their total in the top of the 5th with great base running by Charriez and K. Rouse.  The Panthers face Satellite again on Tuesday.

Panthers  to Struggle at the Plate

In the first game of the regular season, the Panthers were set upon by injury and illness.  Briaunna Dietz had the start at pitcher and the team held the Scorpions to 0 runs in the first inning.  The “big inning” woes that plagued the team in the pre-season continued in the second inning when the Scorpions batted back to go ahead by 7 runs.  The Scorpions added another 4 runs, 3 of which were unearned in the last two innings.  The Panthers continued to struggle at the plate, with only 4 hits on the day.  Charriez reached base in the 1st, VonPlinsky in the in the third, and Battle and Snyder in the 4th, however it was not enough for the Panthers to score.  Final score: 11-0.
